Social Studies Reflection Maria Erz I enjoyed learning about the West African Kingdoms. I liked learning about the West African Kingdoms, because I liked to learn about how they made salt in very creative ways, It was pretty cool to learn how life was for them a long time ago. Also I liked learning about the West African Kingdoms, because I liked to learn about the mosque’s that they had in Timbuktu. They sound pretty cool if you ask me. Also I liked learning about Mansa Musa’s great pilgrimage to Mecca. It was a lot of fun learning about!!!It must of been a very long journey. that could of not been that fun. I hate traveling for a while.I learned about all the different kingdoms in Africa along time ago. They were awesome. There were so many kingdoms like, Ghana, Mali, and Songhai. Also there are other kingdoms like, Ethiopia, Kilwa, and Great Zimbabwe! Oh and I almost forgot the kingdom of Benin. I learned that in Ghana that they made there own salt, by digging hols in the ground and pouring salt water in it. The sun would make the water evaporate leaving salt. In Mali they had a great leader named Mansa Musa! He was the one who went on the very long pilgrimage. Also in Great Zimbabwe they made these stone cone shaped towers that was solid all the way through. No one new for sure what they were built for though. New skills that I learned through out the year, is that I can read maps better. Also I now know skills that can help me locate things better on the maps. Those are the skills I learned this year in class. I can apply this knowledge to the real world if I became a history teacher like my teacher. I would have to know about history in order to be a history teacher. Also if I was traveling when I’m older I will need to know skills about reading maps. That is how I can apply my knowledge to the real world.
